Bday, Xmas, and no showers

The holidays just arent the same here in China as they are back home.. Michelle plays the Christmas CDs all the time even though that shit gets on my damn nerves. It got cold as shit a couple days before Christmas and on Christmas Day it warmed up again to around 60 degrees. So back to the 24th, my Bday.
We know the manager of this one club Joys so we reserved a table for about 8 people. I was expecting around 10 people to show up but they only had this table available because Xmas Eve is one of the biggest party nights in China for some reason. So Guo ordered me a cake from a local bakery and me and him went to pick it up around 930pm before heading to the club. My friend said that we need to get there by 10 to make sure the table doesnt get stolen from us, so me and Guo went early. It was a pretty good table in the center of the bar and I ordered 12 beers off the bat. We figured people would start coming around 1030 or so and thats what happened. In China when its your bday and you have a party out somewhere you are expected to pay for all the alcohol.. Doesnt make sense for us westerners but thats the custom here. So I figured I would buy a bunch of the beer throughout the night and see if people wanted to chip in or whatever. I was going to get F-ed up and have a damn good time without relying on someone else to pay for alcohol like sometimes happens when you get invited into a table of Chinese people. Everytime you order 12 beers at once they give you a raffle ticket for a drawing later in the evening. I had two when they started drawing names. 1st place was a nice Sony camera, 2nd was a nice cell phone, 3rd was a bottle of Scotch. Somehow I got 2nd place and won a cool cell phone. By this time of the evening I was pretty shit faced so Michelle and Gup handled getting the cell phone and all that. I was busy mingling and dancing :) It was a pretty nice cell phone and Ive been wanting to get a new one here anyway. I think around 15 people showed up for the party. In the middle of the night they lit a huge firework and stuck it on my cake. This would never happen in America, it was kinda dangerous. They love fireworks here and anytime they find an excuse to lit them they will. When people started leaving around 1 or so, our friend, the manager moved us to a table closer to the stage and bar area. He also gave us a bunch of free alcohol. We were just chillin dancing with some of the bar dancers when these Chinese girls grabbed my arm and started pulling me up on the bar to dance with them..
Fuck it I said, I was wasted and they looked fun so.. I danced with them for a while bouncing around from girl to girl until I saw Michelle taking pics of me so I pointed to her and told one of the Chinese girls to grab her and pull her up.. So she did. haha. It was me and Michelle and this other guy we know from Nigeria up on the bar with a bunch of Chinese chics and a dude. It was a lot of fun and the crowd was totally into westerners dancing on the bar. At some point while we were all distracted dancing and having fun some asshole stole the cell phone I had won right out from under Michelles coat! Son of a bitch! I really didnt care that much at the time I was too busy having fun and making new friends. Michelle was pissed and got a little out of control as usual when she found out. We left the club when it closed around 230 or so. All in all it was a good night and everyone had a lot of fun.
For Christmas Day we decided to have a Chinese BBQ dinner at the apt with some friends. I bought a couple Chinese BBQ grills from the store and a bunch of charcoal. We also ordered a shit load of meat; chicken, beef, meatballs, some tofu, a lot of veggies, we made some humus, had a bunch of fruit, some fried rice, and even some mashed potatoes. We all chipped in and bought tons of beer, wine, champagne, and other drinks. We also made chocolate chip cookies, a girl from England bought some English pies of some sort and we even taught them how to make smores. I think there were about 10 of us and after we ate the English couple taught us how to play a drinking game called 21 which is a lot of fun. We played for a while until people started leaving around 130. The BBQ was awesome, great investment of 3 dollars. It was a little hairy lighting the charcoal on the stove in the kitchen. Its not really self lite shit so you have to stick it in a hot ass fire to get it going. It worked out pretty good though and we made a special Chinese spicy BBQ sauce that was killer! Ill be BBQ-ing it up a lot I think. One of my friends g-friend was born on Xmas Eve as well and even in 1983 just like your truly! Thats crazy right? I never met someone born the exact day I was, and neither has she. I thought about it later and she would have been born on the 23rd in America since China is like 13 hrs ahead of NYC, soo.. I didnt tell her though bc she was loving it. It definitely was a different kind of Christmas for me, I missed being with the family at Gmas house eating all the traditional American foods for sure! I did get a couple of Xmas present from some f my Chinese friends which was really nice of them so that made me feel better. All in all I had a good time on my Bday and Christmas even though I miss being around my friends and family back home. I also had to work on my Bday which was a first for me. I have only been away from my family on my Bday one other time in my life and I think this is the first Xmas Ive spent away from family.. Kinda weird
So the stove and the hot water in the apt run off a gas tank under the sink that has to be replaced when it runs out. Well we killed it during our Xmas party so we have had no hot water since then and I havent showered in 2.75 days other than washing my face. I dont smell though and it reminds me of camping or Canada living, I guess bc its pretty chilly and rainy outside. It seems the winters are pretty brutal here and with the moist air it feels ridiculously cold. The apts only really have heat in the bedrooms unless you get space heaters and shit so people just live in their jackets and sweaters all the time in the house. Takes a little getting used to. Sucks when yout out of gas and water at the same time though. Cant brush your teeth with the tap water bc it will get you sick so you have to use bottled water. I have a dispenser and buy big jugs, but now Im out and for both the gas and water you have to order it and be home a while so the man can deliver it. With my schedule its kinda hard to do that other than on Mon and Tues. Whatever though, Im easy going and I can adapt to pretty much and situation or circumstance, Im like a chameleon people say.
Other than Michelle gettin on my last damn nerve with her constant bitching at Guo, Chinese people in general, or me everything is pretty good in China still. Hopefully Michelle will move with Guo and Lola into Guos place really soon. It might get a little lonely by myself in the apt, but at least I wont have to deal with a picky, grouchy, bitchy sister all the time. Seriously I dont know what her deal is and I really dont want to write a book on it but she seems unhappy, thats all Im going to say.. Hope everyones Christmas was wonderful! New Years is right around the corner. We had off Xmas day and we will have off Jan 1-3 for New Years, thats the extent of our holiday. Bought to wash some dishes and cook some of this leftover meat we got so this is Kevin signing out, peace be with you.
