First off I want to say that this Valentines day Kevin will have no Valentine. Mostly bc I dont want to blow money, but also if I take a Chinese girl to dinner the next day we are bf and gf. I dont want that right now. Im thinking of having a BBQ party at my house that day and just invite some girls and a few single guys and see what happens. So counting my Bday(:D) this will be the 6th major holiday Ive missed so far being in China. I guess V-day is a major one?? It will be interesting to see how the Chinese celebrate this one. The love the color red and thats what this holiday is about really, so we will see.

The past few days have been really hot here, hotter than the forecast predicted. Today in the sun its gotta be in the 80's! All I did b4 work the past few days is clean up the apt, lay out in the sun, and figure out how to wash my clothes in hot water by hand. The washing machine in this apt blows and they use cold water to wash with, that wont work. So Ive been experimenting with diff techniques. Soak in soapy water over night, rinse with cold water, make another soap bath to scrub the clothes in, then rinse again with cold water. Put out in the sun to dry and we are golden! That one seems to work best. I cant believe its middle of February and Im already working on my tan...

Next, I want to talk about China's air force. Sounds crazy when you think about it, bc b4 I came I didnt figure they had a really good one. Well Guilin is close to one of the major air force bases in China so everyday we have jets and shit fly over. Its pretty crazy sometimes. There will be like 5 of them in formation and every once in a while they will spin upside down and do dog fight maneuvers. Pretty cool to see. The jets are bad ass looking to. One day I heard one coming pretty fast and when I finally located it in the sky he slammed on the brakes and slowed down tremendously. It was sick looking. They def have a lot of them motha f-ers at this base and they are always flying around Guilin. I guess China is DL with their military strength bc I had no idea they had crazy high tech fighter jets like these.

This kinda brings me to my next topic. The world is in a tough spot right now with wars, the economy, and fuel issues. China recently built a dam up North thats the biggest in the world and makes as much energy as like 12 nuclear power plants! Its called 3 Gorges Dam. Thats crazy to think about. A lot of people have electric powered scooters and even have solar panel machines on the roofs of apt buildings. They might be the biggest polluter in the world, but they definitely are preparing for shit to hit the fan. They use animals to work the fields of the farms, they ride bikes to work, they cook with natural wood or coal fires already and havent ever switched to more up to date methods bc these old school ones work and all the newer technologies rely on things in this world that are becoming more scarce like oil and energy. I think China is better equipped for the changes that are coming to our world. When the power goes out in China its not even a big deal, no one really gives a shit. It doesnt dramatically change their daily life as it does to us in the west. So living here in China when the world falls apart is a safe bet I think. Im not saying Ill be here until then or that the world will fall apart, but its something to think about. Im sure Ill come back to this at some point in the future but Im moving on.

Another thing that works in China is the system of law. Ive never seen anyone get arrested here yet and its rare that you see someone pulled over getting a traffic ticket. When someone does get pulled over tons of ppl gather around and watch it go down, its excitement for them. Anyway, the police here dont really do police work like they do in the west. They kinda just roll around in their cop cars doing nothing all day. Chinese people know better than to brake the law I assume, bc if they do its serious. They either go to jail for a very long time or they die. China doesnt play games with criminals of any degree. If you steal youll probably get shot. If you get caught with drugs and you dont have any important connections, shot. If you are drunk in public you go to jail for a while. Its conformity. The people are too scared of the Communist punishments that they dont even think about testing their boundaries. Even though the communist party in China isnt at all like it used to be the people still think of the law aspect as the same. It definitely works thats for sure. People abide by the law and do what they are supposed to do. Of course certain places you can find ppl breaking the laws and doing drugs and all that, but these are safe places where they know they wont get in trouble. The clubs pay off the cops to stay out. Also if you get in trouble with the law there is always the bribery method to get out of it. Everyone wants to make a buck any way they can, even the cops. My friend hit someone while driving a motor bike and the lady went to the hospital. He was also drunk. He paid her bills and paid off the cops and they let him go. Lucky. When the cops know it was an accident the bribery comes into play, but if they know it was on purpose your F-ED.. Just blend in and do what your supposed to with out breaking the laws and youll live a happy long life here in China, conformity.

Lastly, if anyone can think of anything they want me to bring back from China other than drugs, fireworks, and prostitutes let me know.. Im trying to stock pile some stuff for when I come back this summer..
